Hungry White Pajamas

Aikido Training Journal: I started Aikido without knowing a thing about it...

Brad, a good friend of mine who I used to work with, asked me almost by accident to come along to his Aikido class on a Saturday night. That was the beginning.

I had no idea about Aikido or about Martial Arts...I didnt have any expectations before I set foot in the place called the "Dojo". What I saw was people wearing White Dogis doing something interesting. It really had an air that I could sense saying..."If you want to do this, do it right; no more no less." I guess I was fascinated by
whatever was going on on the mat.

At that time, I was in the lowest place in my life in every possible way. I was barely keeping a job to feed the dogs. I can't help thinking of this meeting with Aikido was a gift I was given to get back to myself and to have a better life.

I started training once a week, and it was very hard to feel any progress I was making or not making. It took me about 6 months to get serious about this whole training thing, but once I did...there was nothing that could have stopped me.
My obsession kicked in.

The more I trained, the more it felt difficult. It wasn't only one or two hours of activity, but I had to make many little efforts to get better. I wanted to put more effort to get better faster...One of the ways I used was to keep a blog. It helped me a great deal to remember and not forget things I learned since keeping a blog was simply like
having a class virtually another time.

I was given and earned so much from training Aikido, and it will continue as long as my Aikido days go on. One of the biggest gifts that came with Aikido was meeting with great teachers and fantastic people I can call friends.

If my journey of Aikido could help anybody in any way...
I can't be any happier than that.

My 2nd Dan Test - Highlight : The test went for 30 mins, I was barely standing towards the end..but I was only thinking of moving forward...as my body didn't have anything left to do! (Mar 2009)

Very memorable...making a big noise hitting my head on a wooden floor.
